From December 6 to 7, 2025, the First National “AI + Energy” University Students’ Technological Innovation Competition was held at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The event gathered exceptional students from across China to promote the convergence of artificial intelligence and the energy sector and to encourage innovation in future smart energy systems.

After rounds of on-site challenges and project defenses, Peng Jiaqi and Huang Changhong from ICARE were awarded the National Second Prize in the Graduate Energy Science Research Track for their project, “Ready with ‘Salt’ Arrays, Storing the Future of Hydrogen: Research on Safe and Efficient Injection–Production and Intelligent Operation of Salt Cavern Hydrogen Storage Reservoirs.”
The competition included topics across “AI + Energy” and evaluated participants through written exams, project defenses, and site visits. The final round and award ceremony took place on December 7.

The winning project addresses key technical challenges in large-scale clean hydrogen storage under China’s “Dual-Carbon” strategy. By integrating artificial intelligence with underground hydrogen storage engineering, the team systematically studied the safety and intelligent operation of salt cavern hydrogen storage reservoirs, demonstrating both scientific value and practical significance.
