To deepen educational and scientific cooperation with Europe and enhance the internationalization of education, Professor Luo Xiaobing, Chinese Dean of ICARE visits partner universities in France, Greece, and Italy from November 28 to December 5. The visit produced numerous strategic discussions and concrete outcomes.

France

In France, ICARE delegation, together with Professor Alain Thorel, European Coordinator of ICARE, visited the ParisTech. They met with Christian Lerminiaux, President of ParisTech and Director of Chimie ParisTech-PSL, and Floriane Gusciglio, General and International Delegate of ParisTech. The meetings focused on scientific research cooperation and expanding exchanges for faculty and students, reaching a consensus for future collaboration. The delegation also held in-depth discussions with France-based faculty on teaching reform and future plans.

Greece

In Greece, Professor Luo accompanied HUST President Professor You Zheng and the university delegation to visit the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). The two universities signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance cooperation in teaching and research in new energy fields. Professor You Zheng noted NTUA’s importance as a partner of ICARE and expressed hopes for joint engineering talent cultivation. NTUA representatives expressed interest in expanding the Energy Double Master’s Program and university–industry collaborative education.

Professor Luo reviewed the cooperation history with NTUA, and Professor Vasileios Riziotis presented updates on the Double Master’s Program. The delegation visited NTUA’s Aerodynamics Laboratory, Wind Tunnel, and Steam Boiler and Thermal Equipment Laboratory. Professor Luo also attended the “Where East Meets West: HUST Global Alumni Gathering” in Athens, where students Zoi Kalliopi Karali and Vasiliki Rizioti, participants in ICARE’s 2025 Global Clean and Renewable Energy Experience Summer Camp, shared their experiences.

Italy

In Italy, the delegation visited the University of Padova and the Polytechnic University of Turin. At the University of Padova, Professor Luo discussed expanding master’s programs and visited key laboratories with Professor Fabrizio Dughiero. During the university-level meeting, both sides agreed to further enhance joint talent training through ICARE and expand research into architectural design and industrial engineering. On behalf of HUST President Professor You Zheng, Professor Luo presented Professor Dughiero with a Visiting Professor appointment letter.

At the Polytechnic University of Turin, the delegation engaged with leaders from the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications and the Department of Control and Computer Engineering. Professor Luo introduced HUST’s energy disciplines and European partnerships, and the delegation discussed opportunities for faculty and student exchanges and joint course development with Professor Alessandro Vigliani, Director of the PoliTo China Centerfor the Architecture Area.

The visit, which coincided with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the European Union, consolidated existing partnerships and set a clear course for future collaboration. ICARE will continue to bridge science, education, and culture, fostering deeper and more effective cooperation between China and Europe.
