Recently, during the “Discover at HUST—Global Clean and Renewable Energy Experience Summer Camp” organized by China-EU Institute for Clean and Renewable Energy, five wonderful scientific research lectures and three fascinating laboratory visits, among other research-related interactive activities, have attracted the active participation of many international students. Chinese and international students gathered at Huazhong University of Science &Technology, jointly exploring the latest developments and innovative achievements in the energy field, and gaining an in-depth understanding of cutting-edge knowledge in energy science.
On the morning of July 14th, Professor Luo Xiaobing, Chinese Dean of ICARE, took the lead in delivering a keynote lecture titled “Overview of Clean Energy at Home and Abroad”. Boasting remarkable achievements in the energy field, he leveraged his profound academic expertise and extensive practical experience to provide students with a detailed analysis of the current development status, existing challenges, and future development trends of clean energy both domestically and internationally. This lecture enabled students to gain a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of clean energy.

After the lecture, the campers went to visit Professor Luo Xiaobing’s laboratory. There, they witnessed a series of advanced scientific research equipment with their own eyes, gained an in-depth understanding of the laboratory’s research work in cutting-edge fields such as extreme thermal management design and devices, and optoelectronic device packaging, and experienced the charm of scientific research up close.
On July 16th, the campers visited the State Key Laboratory of Coal Combustion. This laboratory has achieved remarkable results in the basic theory of coal combustion, combustion technology innovation, and pollutant control. During the visit, the students learned how the laboratory is committed to improving coal utilization efficiency and reducing environmental pollution through technological innovation, and deeply realized the importance and urgency of clean and efficient utilization of energy.
Subsequently, Associate Professor Li Xuemin, an ICARE Chinese supervisor, gave a lecture titled “Overview of Domestic Wind Energy Technology and Development”. Focusing on research in the field of wind energy, he explained the development history, current technical level, and future development direction of China’s wind energy technology in a simple and understandable way, enabling the students to have a clear understanding of the domestic wind energy industry. At 11 o’clock, Researcher from the National Technical University of Athens, Georgios KARALIS delivered a lecture titled “Overview of Foreign Wind Energy Technology and Development”. From an international perspective, he shared advanced foreign wind energy technologies and successful development experiences, which broadened the students’ international horizons and enabled them to have a more comprehensive understanding of the development of the global wind energy field.

On July 20th, Professor Yang Yang, an ICARE Chinese supervisor, delivered a lecture focusing on the “Overview of Domestic Biomass Energy Technologies and Development”. He elaborated on various utilization methods of biomass energy, the achievements China has made in the R&D and application of biomass energy technologies, as well as the future development potential and challenges in this field. The lecture guided students to conduct in-depth thinking on the important position of biomass energy in China's energy structure and its development prospects.
On the morning of July 23rd, the campers visited the Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics. This laboratory ranks among the domestic leaders in terms of scientific research strength in the optoelectronics field. During the visit, the campers were shown a variety of advanced optoelectronic research facilities, learned about the extensive applications of optoelectronic technology in multiple fields such as energy, communications, and healthcare, and deeply felt the tremendous driving force of cutting-edge science and technology for social development.
Subsequently, Associate Professor Li Song, an ICARE Chinese supervisor, gave a lecture titled “Overview of Domestic Hydrogen Energy Technologies and Development”. Focusing on aspects including the production, storage, transportation, and application of hydrogen energy, she introduced the research progress and current development status of domestic hydrogen energy technologies. This lecture helped the participants recognize that as a clean and efficient secondary energy source, hydrogen energy holds enormous development potential in the future energy system.
Through a series of scientific research lectures and laboratory visit activities, the camp participants not only gained in-depth knowledge of professional expertise in the energy field and broadened their academic horizons, but also personally experienced the charm and challenges of scientific research work, laying a solid foundation for their future engagement in research in related fields.
